#PRAEY FOR THE GODS MAP UPGRADE#
There's a fantastic opportunity here to engage in fun boss fights that will remind you of Shadow of the Colossus (if you've played that classic), solve simple puzzles for new gear, explore a vast environment to find lore notes and upgrade totems, and have some interesting diversions like fighting undead or slaying the 3 mini-bosses for the best set of gear in the game.

You don't need to flip out over fighting undead and hunting if you just focus on the clearly-marked boss locations (each time you beat one, another one becomes marked on your map). You don't have to engage with the survival mechanics if you don't want. In short, a lot of the people complaining about this game should take a step back and look at the choices the game gave them. Particularly since hunting is mostly useful for gathering resources that aid in the survival mechanics, which are themselves an optional aspect of the game thanks to the difficulty settings. You only use them for fighting the undead roaming the land and hunting animals. Moreover, your weapons are not even used in the boss fights that progress the story. Within no time, you'll find yourself glutted on resources after the rocky, survival-game start. However, once you find the "Soldier's" weapons (and the sword can be found inside the temple after the intro level if you explore a bit), combat difficulty and maintaining item condition become trivial - even when not playing on the lowest setting.

I will warn players: I almost thought the negative reviews had a point at the very beginning because the "Crude" weapons you start with are so certifiably awful. On the lowest survival difficulty, the mechanics are almost entirely removed. When you start a new game, it asks you the difficulty you want for both combat and survival and both difficulties are set separately. And no, it's not hidden in some options menu. Criticizing the game on these grounds is utterly absurd - because you can literally opt out of them. This is because most of those reviews focus on the survival game mechanics this game introduced (not present in the original Shadow, and considered a distraction by some reviewers). I have seen reviews that lambast this game and refuse to recommend it, but I strongly disagree with their points. The addition of a sailcloth parachute (admittedly something similar existed in Colossus but as a challenge mode unlock) and grapple-launcher (completely new) with non-combat puzzles and gear that can customize your look while staying true to the aesthetic of our protagonist make this a real treat. Inspired by Shadow of the Colossus, yet a very novel IP with plenty of ideas of its own, this is an astounding debut for a 3-person dev team. And yes, I realize how inadvisable that is in this day and age - that's why I've never done it before.īut I did it for Praey, and I have no regrets.Īt the time of this review, I have completed 6 of the 8 bosses in the game and it is an incredible success.

Never before have I impulse-purchased a game on Steam after findings its product page and with no prior knowledge.
